“Extremism is so easy. You’ve got your position, and that’s it. It doesn’t take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.”
― Clint Eastwood
“Extremes to the right and to the left of any political dispute are always wrong.”
― Dwight D. Eisenhower
Seems we’re caught in the midst of extremists wherever you look these days, if you follow the news. And every extreme is using politics as the vehicle to coerce everyone else to abide by their beliefs. Two topics in the news of late illustrates – one gun control and the other abortion: In California, the state Senate passed legislation that would add to the existing licensing, background check and waiting period to purchase a gun the same restrictions for purchasing ammunition; in Oklahoma, both houses have passed a bill for the governor’s signature to become law that would make it a felony for any doctor to perform an abortion.
Now, consider, the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled it a constitutional right for citizens to legally obtain and possess a gun. California’s extreme Left disagrees. Now, if someone is found permittable under law to buy and posses a gun, does it not follow that they shouldn’t need a separate permit and procedure to purchase ammo for it? The argument that unrestricted ammo purchases enable bad guys to legally get bullets for the guns they’re not legally allowed to have begs the question: if the guns they have are black market-stolen, won’t they get the ammo they need they same way, stolen? This proposed law is the Liberal’s attempt to circumvent a Constutional right – maybe you have a right to own a gun, but there’s nothing that says you have a right to the ammunition for it.
And consider, the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that every woman has the constitutional right to obtain an abortion. Oklahoma’s extreme Right disagrees. Now, does it not follow that if a woman medically needs or desires an abortion, and if the only legal abortions are those performed by or under the supervision of licensed physicians, that to make it a felony for any doctor to perform an abortion begs the question: how else is an abortion legally obtained? This proposed law is the Conservative’s attempt to circumvent a Constitutional right – maybe you have a right to an abortion, but there’s nothing that says a doctor has to be permitted to perform it.
Both these examples illustrate idiots of extremism from both the Left and the Right who think everyone must conform to their beliefs and, if necessary, enact laws to ensure it.
And they are both wrong.
